Know Before You Go – Essaouira Day Trip

The drive from Marrakech to Essaouira takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, so an early start is recommended to enjoy the full day. The road is smooth and scenic, passing through argan tree landscapes and small villages along the way.

Essaouira is a coastal city, so it is often windy and slightly cooler than Marrakech. It is a good idea to bring a light jacket, even in summer, especially if you plan to walk along the beach.

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended because the medina has cobbled streets and you will be walking a lot during the visit. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are also useful for protection during the day.

You will have opportunities to buy local products, especially argan oil and handmade crafts, so carrying some cash in Moroccan dirhams is helpful. Prices are usually fixed or can be politely negotiated in local shops.

The visit to the argan oil cooperative is a cultural stop where local women explain the traditional production process. It is also a good place to try natural cosmetic and food products made from argan oil.

Overall, the trip is relaxed and suitable for all ages, with a mix of culture, ocean views, and free time to explore at your own pace.
