Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech – Explore the Red City
Begin your journey in the vibrant city of Marrakech, also known as the Red City for its ochre-colored buildings. After arriving, you’ll be transferred to your hotel to freshen up. Spend the rest of the day discovering the bustling Jemaa el-Fna Square, visit the historic Koutoubia Mosque, and stroll through the lively souks. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner in one of the city’s renowned restaurants.
Day 2: Marrakech → Ait Benhaddou → Ouarzazate
After breakfast, travel through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass to reach Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ksar has been featured in several famous films, such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Continue your journey to Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Morocco, and explore the local film studios before heading to your overnight accommodation in the area.
Day 3: Ouarzazate → Skoura → Dades Valley
On day 3, continue your journey to Skoura, home to the Valley of the Roses. Explore the traditional Kasbahs and vast palm groves. Then, continue to Dades Valley, known for its dramatic landscapes and cliffs, where you’ll spend the night in a charming guesthouse surrounded by nature.
Day 4: Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
On day 4, travel through the spectacular Dades Valley and make a stop at the Todra Gorge for a short hike in the towering cliffs. Later, journey towards Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Arriving in the late afternoon, you’ll embark on a camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you’ll spend the night in a luxury desert camp under the stars.
Day 5: Explore the Desert & Nomadic Culture
Wake up early to witness a stunning sunrise over the dunes of the Sahara. After a traditional breakfast, spend the day exploring the desert by 4×4, visiting local nomadic families, experiencing a traditional tea ceremony, and enjoying optional activities like sandboarding or quad biking. In the evening, return to your desert camp for another unforgettable night under the stars.
Day 6: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt
Leave the desert behind and travel towards the lush Ziz Valley, known for its palm groves and traditional ksours. Stop in local Berber villages for cultural encounters and lunch before heading to Midelt, a peaceful town nestled in the Middle Atlas Mountains. Spend the night in a local guesthouse, enjoying the serene atmosphere of the area.
Day 7: Midelt → Ifrane → Fès
On day 7, continue your journey through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where you may encounter wild Barbary macaques. Stop in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its alpine charm, before heading to Fès, one of Morocco’s most famous imperial cities. Settle into a traditional riad in the heart of the ancient medina.
Day 8: Guided Tour of Fès – Departure
Explore the historic Fès el-Bali medina with a local guide. Visit the iconic Al-Qarawiyyin University, the oldest existing university in the world, and discover the bustling tanneries, artisan workshops, and hidden palaces. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure, marking the end of your Moroccan adventure.
