Day Trip to Essaouira
Your day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech will begin at 8:30 am from your hotel in Marrakech. We will drive across the Haouz plains to reach the Chichaoua village, where we will pause for a coffee break.
Continuing on to Sidi Mokhtar, we will pass through an Argan tree forest where you might witness goats climbing trees. You will have the opportunity to stop and capture some photographs before we proceed to Essaouira.
Upon arriving in Essaouira, our first stop will be the harbor, with its fishing port and ancient Portuguese fortifications. Here, you can observe medieval war cannons lining up towards the Atlantic Ocean. We will then move on to the Medina, the old city, with well-preserved fortifications dating back to the 18th century.
La Scala, the most notable landmark of the Medina, was constructed to safeguard the city against foreign attacks from the sea. Following that, we will visit Bab Laalouj, one of the main gates of Essaouira, and then the Mellah, the ancient Jewish quarter.
En route, you will come across several art shops, galleries, souvenir shops, and thuya wood craft shops. We will take a break for a delicious seafood lunch at one of the local cafes of your choice.
After that, we will head to a Kasbah known for its military bastion.
